Loved ones remembered

Over 250 people braved the weather on Thursday 5 December to attend the Countess of Brecknock Hospice annual ‘Light Up a Life’ service at St Mary’s Church in Andover. As part of a service led by Michele Gard, Charity Director, and the Revd Sarah Wehr, the hospice chaplain, candles were lit to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones, families and friends. The event was also attended by The Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley, Councillor Ian Jeffrey and Mrs Maura Jeffrey. The volunteer police cadets were on hand to help guide guests to their seats and music was kindly provided by Test Valley Brass and the Singing for Fun choir.

A magnificent Christmas tree has also been erected outside the hospice, adorned with lights dedicated in memory of loved ones. This year dedications have raised over £8,000 which will support the work of the Hospice providing end of life care for the local community.

Michele Gard, Charity Director, said: “Light Up a Life is one of the most valued events in our calendar. It enables people in our local community to remember and share precious memories at this special time, and to unite and comfort people who have lost their loved ones. It also highlights the vital support that the hospice provides after family members or friends have died.”

This year’s event was generously supported by Dunning Funeral Directors who printed the programmes and Tesco River Way who donated the mince pies.
