More than 100 visitors enjoyed a rare opportunity to explore our tranquil hospice gardens this weekend, as we held our second Open Garden event.
Basking in beautiful May sunshine, guests strolled through the thoughtfully landscaped grounds, took part in fundraising activities, and relaxed with homemade cake and tea. Across the two-day event, over £2,200 was raised through ticket sales, a popular plant and gift stall, refreshments and a Spring raffle. The money raised will go towards providing compassionate, specialist care for people facing life-limiting illness and their families.
Michele Gard, Charity Director, said: “We’re so grateful to everyone who visited and supported the hospice this weekend. The funds raised will help us continue to provide outstanding care and comfort when it’s needed most.”
Highlights of the weekend included a vibrant plant sale, with a wide selection generously donated by both individuals, as well as local WI’s and gardening groups. Guests also enjoyed exploring the garden, designed by RHS award-winner Fi Boyle, featuring a calming palette of soft whites, greens, blues and pinks, alongside fragrant, low-maintenance planting that offers year-round interest. Each room in the hospice’s in-patient unit opens out onto these peaceful gardens.
Among the visitors was Sue from Andover, who said: “It was lovely to visit the gardens and reflect. It means a lot to support the hospice that cared for my husband so well.”
The hospice team is already looking forward to welcoming visitors back next year.
