Donating Shares

Donating Your Shares

Have you got shares which are uneconomic to sell? You can help support us by donating your small shareholdings to ShareGift, the share donation charity.

ShareGift is an independent UK registered charity (no. 1052686) which specialises in accepting small shareholdings that would cost more to sell than they are worth, generating substantial funding for charities. They also accept larger donations of shares.

ShareGift works by collecting together small lots of shares until there are enough to sell and then donating the resulting proceeds to a wide range of charities.

To date, ShareGift has donated over £50million and supported thousands of charities. They make their grants based upon a variety of factors including the suggestions of their donors.

You can help support our work by donating any size of shareholdings you may have to ShareGift. All you need to do is simply mention The Countess of Brecknock Hospice when you make your gift.

Why donate your shares?

Many shareholders are unaware that small shareholdings often cost more to sell than they’re worth. Instead of sitting unused, these shares can be pooled with others, sold efficiently, and directed to charities like us.

If you are a UK taxpayer, you can claim income tax relief on the value of most stocks and securities when you donate them to a charity. In addition, donating shares charitably is excluded from Capital Gains Tax (CGT).

How to donate shares

ShareGift aims to make the process as simple as possible and they will guide you through the process.

As shares can be held in a number of different ways, the first thing they do is to  check the type of shareholding you have and they will then send you the appropriate transfer form for you to sign. This is also the stage that you will be given the opportunity to suggest a charity to them.

Thank you for your support.
